hello friends,
This is the latest in the DIY craft supplies edition. Today we are talking about Texture Paste. So to begin let us understand WHAT IS TEXTURE PASTE?
As the name suggests Texture Paste is a medium that is used to create texture on a surface like canvas, paper, wall, wood, metal etc. It can be used on its own or added to paint. It has a thick consistency and usually holds its shape so any design created with texture paste will hold its shape when dry.
ARE GESSO AND TEXTURE PASTE THE SAME?
Now that we know what is texture paste, people often confuse it with gesso so here is a table that shall show the difference between the two.
Now that we know the difference and if you want to know how to make your own gesso you can check out this link here
HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN TEXTURE PASTE?
You can make texture paste in many ways. Here I will show you 2 ways to make texture paste and 2 other things that you can use instead of the texture paste to get a similar effect.
Materials
Talcum powder, PVA glue/ fevicol, water, a cup/ bowl, an ice cream stick or disposable spoon or plastic palette knife, white acrylic paint
Recipe 1: Pour 1 part glue and 1 part talcum powder in a bowl add 1/2 part acrylic colour
For example if you take 1 tablespoon powder, mix 1 tablespoon glue and 1/2 tablespoon acrylic colour.
Mix them well, if you find that the mixture is too flowy and does not hold its shape add more talcum powder - the consistency is good if the paste holds a peak. If it is too thick add a little water but be very careful when adding water. Make sure there are no lumps in the mixture. You can then store this mixture in an airtight container for use.
Materials: Ceramic powder, VA glue/ fevicol, water, a cup/ bowl, an ice cream stick or disposable spoon or plastic palette knife, white acrylic paint
Recipe 2: Pour 1 part glue and 1 part ceramic powder in a bowl add 1/2 part acrylic colour
For example, if you take 1 tablespoon powder, mix 1 tablespoon glue and 1/2 tablespoon acrylic colour.
Mix them well, if you find that the mixture is too flowy and does not hold its shape add more ceramic powder - the consistency is good if the paste holds a peak. If it is too thick add a little water but be very careful when adding water. Make sure there are no lumps in the mixture. this mixture will absorb water easily as it is kept so when you store, add a few sprays of water so that it does not dry out completely..
Now if you need lots of texture paste and don't necessarily need to store it the other two options I am gonna give you here might come in handy as and cheap too...
Here you can use either white cement which will dry very fast and will give you great true too otherwise you may use wall putty which works out perfectly as it is used for creating texture on walls etc and it accepts paint easily, but both these methods may not be stored as they start to dry very fast... a thin mixture of this can also be used to stiffen something like a string etc...
